ABOUT US

A small charity, built on trust

Giving Relief is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales on 18 October 2022 (charity number 1200713). We are based in Leeds and run by a board of volunteer trustees who receive no payment from the charity.

Because we are small, every gift can be traced from your hands to the family it helps.

OUR STORY

Our story began in one place

Like many charities before us, our story began in one place. Syria was where it began: around a million orphans with no one to care for them, and one in three school-age children out of school. We saw a whole generation losing its future, and a country losing its tomorrow with it. So we rolled up our sleeves and set out to help save the future of a nation. Today the World Bank estimates the cost of rebuilding at more than $200 billion: a task no single organisation, or even a single country, can carry alone, but one in which each of us has a part to play.

We believe this pain is not confined to one country. Wherever there is war or disaster, there is a child who has lost a parent, and a child who has lost their school. Every one of them, wherever they are, deserves someone to care for them and bring them back to learning, because today’s child is tomorrow’s builder and the bearer of civilisation.

THE DREAM WE SHARE

Stone by stone, child by child

We believe a future is rebuilt after war the way a house is built: stone by stone, child by child, family by family. Giving Relief was founded on the belief that doing good is a moral duty, and that caring for others is not about sadness or mere sympathy, but about working to serve them.

Our first priority is the orphan: to care for them and bring them back to school, so their minds come alive again and they grow up to be the engineer, doctor or teacher who rebuilds their community. Since 2022, we have supported more than 100 orphans and built 12 homes with families. With steady effort, rubble becomes a building again.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We believe that every gift, however small, and every effort, however modest, leaves a mark, and that people are the heart of rebuilding. So we focus on what makes a future:

  • ✓a child raised with care,
  • ✓a child back in school,
  • ✓a family with a door they can close.
We call it simply: what you give remains.

THE STORY OF OUR SLOGAN

What you give remains.

Our slogan is inspired by a hadith of the Prophet ﷺ. A sheep was slaughtered in his household and given away in charity, all but its shoulder. The Prophet ﷺ taught that what had been given away was what remained, and only the shoulder was gone. What we give away is what truly stays with us. That is the promise behind every gift.

MISSION

To give orphans and families affected by war what they need to rebuild their lives: care for children who have lost a parent, a path back to education, and safe homes in place of tents.

VISION

A generation raised with care, learning and a safe home, that goes on to rebuild its own communities.

Lasting impact

We choose help that keeps working long after the gift: a child raised, a child educated, a home built.

Transparency

Every gift can be traced. We report back on what your giving achieved.

Dignity

We protect the privacy and dignity of every child and family we serve.

Trust

We treat every donation, and every zakat, as a trust to be spent where it is due.

HOW WE WORK

Small by choice, close to every gift

We fund projects through our field partner, ATAA Humanitarian Relief Association, a registered humanitarian organisation [registration country and number], under a signed grant agreement. Our trustees approve every grant, check every report, and share what your giving achieved.

  • ✓Due diligence before any grant: registration, governance and sanctions checks.
  • ✓Signed grant agreement: purpose, budget and reporting for each grant.
  • ✓Field reports and evidence: receipts and photographs.
  • ✓Trustee oversight: every report reviewed before the next grant.
